Latest Detectors
Brand new from Minelab. Explorer
SE
A new updated version of Explorer is out with a faster processor, more user
friendly menus, new audio tone settings and a bunch more. Oh, and it looks
like they tried to solve the weight issue with a lighter coil. Just in time
for Christmas!
Teknetics T2. There has been some talk about this detector lately. After speaking with a knowledgeable friend, despite its "interesting" looks, it seems like a very capable machine. Awaiting for your honest opinions on this one.
A new detector from Whites - Matrix
M6
At first look it appears to be a simplified version of the MXT without the
prospecting capabilities. Design specifically for coinshooting plus a jewelry
mode running at 14kHz. Simple 2 knob operation with a target ID display
and 7 audio tones. If DFX or XLT is too complicated for you, M6 might be
the answer, it really doesn't get any more simpler then this. If you already
own this detector, please share your experience with us.
F-75 from Fisher, looks just like Teknetics T2 but works like??? We're going to find out soon enough. Share your experience, good or bad.
We appreciate all the support of those who have submitted their reviews and shared their honest opinions for others to read. If you would like to suggest a new category or have some ideas, please e-mail us.

Show me more What types of metal detectors are there?
There
are many different detectors, some are more complicated then others. The
basic ones are easy to get used to, with less features and buttons. Turn
it on and off you go! You can't get around practice though, and the more
complicated the detector, the more practice you will need. Which is the
best detector? What is the best gold detector? Read some of the user reviews
to find out.
Recommended Beginner Detectors
Land or relic detectors are used mainly on land or in the woods, playgrounds, parks, etc. They can be used at the water edge and even in the water a couple of inches, most coils are waterproof, but don't drop your whole detector in the water. If you're just starting out in the hobby, here are the most popular and affordable beginner metal detectors. The Garrett Ace 250, Whites Prizm II, Minelab Musketeer, and the Bounty Hunter Tracker IV Of course there are many more models of detectors to choose from, but these will get you started on the right track.
Waterproof Detectors
Maybe you're close to the ocean or lakes, and are thinking of jumping
in the water with your metal detector to find out what was lost there? If
finding jewelry is your thing then a waterproof detector is a must.
To make it simple, there are two basic categories of underwater detectors:
A VLF - that can discriminate against iron and unwanted junk, and there
is a PI - that can detect deeper then a VLF but you'll be digging every
nail and bottlecap without knowing it. Here are a few examples - VLF:
Minelab Excalibur 1000,
Fisher CZ 20
PI: Whites Surf Master
PI Pro, Headhunter Pulse
What Our Visitors Say

I love your site!! I'm a metal detecting addict and I'm always looking
for good MD sites. Your site is one of the better ones I've found! Keep
up the great work. I only wish your site had been around several years ago
when I was getting started in the metal detecting hobby. It would have cut
my research time in half.
