Minelab Sovereign GT

The Minelab Secret

MB in Michigan, USA - best
For years I feared Minelab detectors because some people told me they're hard to learn and cheaply made.

Recently I decided to see for myself so I purchased a Sovereign GT.

First let me say that the GT is not difficult to learn. The beginner settings are great and many oldtimers still use them. You set the knobs once and leave them there. After that you just turn it on and off and replace batteries when needed. This is one of the easiest to use machines made today.

Some claim it's too heavy. This is not correct. It is just right with super balance.

The depth is better than all brands and models I've owned heretofore.

The IRON MASK works great and the only nails I dig now are those I pull up while digging good targets.

Pinpointing is dead-on perfect once one learns the DD coil. I rarely dig a plug more than 3 inches wide. One could use a coin plugger or screw driver type coin digger with the GT fixed with the stock 10" coil.

The quality of Minelab workmanship is so superior to most other brands that after owning a GT the other brands look like cheap toys. Even the user manual is a quality binded easy-to-understand booklet.

The GT is a winner!

Sov GT

Gary in Pompano Beach Florida - best
If the Excalibur is the big sword then the Sovereign GT is the rapier, mine paid for itself within 3 weeks in gold finds on S Florida beaches, its sensative to small gold and has good depth, I use an Excalibur for water hunting but always the GT for wet sanding, in the wet sand its a gold magnet. No big learning curve with this machine, listen to what the machine is telling you by the tones of the different metal targets and 9 times out of 10 you know what the target is before you dig it up. If you want to find the fine gold chains & rings the other machines are leaving behind, walk slowly, sweep slowly and the SovGT will pick them out for you, it also works great in trashy areas.

Minelab Sovereign GT

Dean B. White in Mt Beauty, VIC, Australia - best
I bought the Minelab Sovereign GT because of the impressive technical specifications and for it's ability to be both a treasure and gold detector.

My previous detector was a Minelab GT 15000 which was good and I uncovered many old pre-decimal coins at an old school that no longer exists. Problem was... identifying rubbish from coins or other good targets was hard.

I went to the same grounds and tried the newer detector. WOW... what a difference. Positive targets were loud and clear and I didn't get to dig a single piece of rubbish or a false target.

I thrashed this ground with the older detector and although the area I was looking in is quite small I found over 20 additional pre-decimal coins in less than 1 hour while just doing a quick sweep.

I then decided the small playground across the road from my house was fair game and to my surprise got a good handful of pre-decimal coins there.

I'm hoping to get into some gold country soon so hope I have some positive feedback on that later.

All up... an excellent detector. I later installed the digital meter which I had neglected to do when I first went out with the detector. OMG... with practice I can basically tell what the target is before I even dig it. The digital meter (extra in Australia) is worth the price and compliments the detector very well.

Sovereign GT WOW

Jim in WPB in West Palm Beach, FL - best
After five months, I gotta say that the depth, discrimination, versatility, price, and availability of after market coils/accessories, make this one heck of great detector. Learning it was simple with all the forums on the net.

I shouldn't really be writing this because its not in my best interest to many of these in the places I hunt, but anyway hat's off to Minelab on keeping it alive.

I have a Garrett, EXP II, PI Pro, Excalibur, but the Sovereign is by best.

Minelabs Sovereign GT is the best yet!

Daniel in Sacramento, California USA - best
After using the GT less then 12 hours in the past 3 weeks, I am convinced it's the best detector I have used since I started detecting 3 years ago. I have owned 7 detectors which include Bounty Hunter, Whites, Tesoro, Garrett and even the Musketeer Advantage.
Near my home is a old city park that use to be a farm donated to the city back in the 50's. The original farm house is still there and I have taken every one of the detectors there to see if anything was still in the ground of any value. With the exception of clad nothing of any real value came up. (Remember that this area has been detected by other detectorist over the years also.) Then I went back with my GT. Within a half hour I found a 1936 quarter and a 1945 Mercury Dime! And at the very same area I detected with my other detectors! And while trying to get the hang of the GT earlier before that (It has a learning curve, that's for sure.) I found 2 gold rings.
I reccomend this detector for someone who is tired of digging just near surface targets and willing to get thier nails really dirty.

Minelab Sovereign GT

Bryan Llewellyn in Abertawe Cymru (Swansea Wales U.K.) - best
I have owned the GT now for around 6 weeks and have used it on the beach and also inland on my farm, I also own several other detectors including Minelab Explorer 11, Whites MXT, Fisher CZ3D and a Pulsepower Deepstar 3, all of these machines have their strengths and weaknesses, but I must be honest the GT is a very good all round machine that can be used in most soil conditions, and at the beach with no compromise in performance, it has one the smoothest thresholds that I have ever used, and if I had to choose one detector for doing it all this would be at the top of my list.
Best Regards
Bryan

Minelab GT

Darrel in Florida - good
I have been beachcombing beaches near the 1715 Fleet, which is in south Florida. I have used several machines, including the 1280x, but found the GT is the best for the conditions in that area. The only problem I have is why Minelab didn't make the housing, connections, and switches waterproof? Everyone I know owns either an Excalibur or 1280x. Both are great machines if used correctly, but the GT offers some features not found on most machines.
